Emile C Browne

Born in St Croix, Emile first gave thought to photography in high school. He and his cousin Winston would take turns using the one momento he had from his deceased father, a Minolta Hi-Matic 7s 35mm Rangefinder, to try to emulate the images they saw in magazines. Emile put the camera down for many years and didn’t pick it up again until he decided he wanted to sell custom made cufflinks.

To take pictures of the cufflinks Emile sold, he used a Casio EXILIM camera. That Casio, and encouragement from friends, would set the stage to launch properly into photography.

After a trip to Miami to celebrate his friends birthday, where he was asked to document the trip photographically, Emile decided he needed a better camera for whatever life threw at him. That choice to buy a NIKON D9 set off an unexpected journey where Emile’s work was awarded, published, and helped him realize the life a desk job never gave him.

Emile has taken his camera all around the world and has focused his camera mostly on Urban Landscapes. Emile is careful to not glorify the tragedies that have befallen people. Rather than trauma porn, when capturing people, he tries to catch the simplicity of their everyday.

Emile’s work has been collected ever since is first show. While he does not show often he has continued to build a global body of work.
