Mathieu JN Baptiste
Mathieu JN Baptiste was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and is based in Houston, Texas. Growing up in Haiti and St. Paul, Minnesota, Mathieu studied Art and Photography at Ecole Nationale des Arts (Enarts), earning a Bachelor of Arts in Art History. Using paint and metal as his primary mediums, Mathieu creates works that explore human struggles, hope, and interconnectedness in a complex world.
A self-taught visual artist, Mathieu specializes in painting, drawing, and metal sculpture. His works have been exhibited in venues like the Woman’s Hospital of Texas, Discovery Green, and Art Basel Miami 2019. Internationally, his art has graced spaces like Haiti’s Presidential Palace and has been featured in private collections and charity events. Mathieu is also a sought-after consultant and instructor for educational institutions, civic organizations, and private penitentiaries. His work is deeply inspired by the Mannerist and Surrealist movements, evident in his focus on oppressed subjects and untold stories.
